Energy Section - What is Planned?
The Public Works Agency (PWA) is prepared to implement the following:
- Collaborating with Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory on applied research to maximize efficiency in the City Administration Buildings. Opportunities are being explored to expand this partnership to see how far we can push the envelope in City facilities using cutting-edge technology.
- Working with the City's Purchasing Division to encourage acquisition of energy efficient equipment.
- Managing utility costs including giving facility occupants practical information about their energy use, cost, and conservation opportunities.
- Continuing an energy efficient practices campaign to promote efficient use of building systems and equipment (i.e., turning off lights, shutting off computers, etc.) among City staff.
- Retrofitting lighting, HVAC and electricity distribution systems in approximately 1,000,000 square feet of City facilities wherever it is cost effective. Targeted savings are 20 percent at each site.
Future City Plans Include the Following to Continue Reducing Consumption:
- The City's future plans to continue reducing consumption are to stay the course set for reducing energy use in City facilities by another 10 percent beyond the 12 percent already achieved.
